Since 1983, our non-profit association has been running a fair trade shop, ”Klotet” (The Globe) in Lund, entirely without own profit interests. In collaboration with Fair Trade importers and producers in the Global South we aim to promote responsible consumption. Besides sales, informational work is therefore an important part of our mission.
Fair Trade – Shopping for a Better World
Fair Trade is a social movement and business model that aims to promote ethical and sustainable production practices. Fair trade can fight poverty, climate change, gender inequality and other forms of injustice. Fair trade seeks greater equity in international trade. It focuses on ensuring that marginalized producers and workers in the Global South, receive fair wages, work in safe conditions, and engage in environmentally friendly practices. By choosing Fair Trade products, consumers contribute to a more equitable global trade system and support the well-being of workers and communities involved in the production process.
”Klotet” is a member of the swedish Organization for Fair Trade Retailers and thereby also a member of WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization). Membership requires, among other things, that the majority of our assortment meets the requirements for Fair Trade, whether it’s according to WFTO’s 10 principles, through Fairtrade labeling, or equivalent certifications.
